Application
The already damaged gearbox’s lubricant was changed to Castrol Synthetic PD 320 with the PD additive technology.
IDENTIFY
By working collaboratively with the customer, the already damaged gearbox was identified as critical and would have resulted in major production losses. No replacement gearbox was available.
AGREE
It was agreed to use a high-performance lubricant Castrol Synthetic PD to extend the life of the damaged gears in the gearbox to allow the replacement unit to be ordered and installed. The PD technology can repair some of the surface damage on the gears but will also protect units better under all and extreme conditions.
DELIVER
The gearbox did not fail and the new unit could be installed at a planned shutdown 4 months after the initial damage was identified. Once the unit was opened for repairs the extent of the damage became clear and the extraordinary protection the lubricant offered, resulting in the prevention of the major production losses.
